Oily Scalp but Dry Ends? This Is the Routine That Finally Worked for Me

Oily Scalp but Dry Ends? This Is the Routine That Finally Worked for MeZoom

If you also know the struggle of your roots getting oily by the very next day while your ends stay dry and dull, then you understand how hard it is to find the balance. For a long time I used the same products on my whole head of hair, but over time I realized that my scalp and the lengths of my hair have completely different needs.

Why I treat my scalp and my ends separately

My scalp gets oily easily, so I look for a shampoo that cleanses it thoroughly without drying it out. My ends, on the other hand, tend to get dry, so they need a lot more hydration and nourishment.

Ever since I started treating these two areas separately, my hair feels much more balanced: my roots stay fresh for longer, while my ends are softer and easier to manage.

The products I'm using right now

Daeng Gi Meo Ri Revitalizing Shampoo

This is how I start every wash, thoroughly cleansing my scalp. With it, my scalp never feels uncomfortably dry or tight afterward.

Daeng Gi Meo Ri Revitalizing Conditioner

I apply the conditioner only to the lengths and the ends. That way my hair gets softer without weighing my roots down.

L'Oréal Paris Metal Detox

Once a week I add this to my routine as well. It helps remove buildup and mineral deposits from the hair, and afterward my hair feels smoother and silkier.

Tresemmé Biotin Repair Hair Mask

When my hair needs a little extra care, this is what I reach for. It hydrates the lengths beautifully and makes detangling so much easier afterward.

Matrix Food For Soft Oil Serum

Before blow-drying, I distribute a drop or two over my ends. It doesn't weigh my hair down, but it gives it a nicer shine and helps prevent that dry feeling.

What a wash-day routine looks like for me

  1. First I wash my scalp thoroughly, shampooing twice with the Daeng Gi Meo Ri shampoo.
  2. Then the conditioner goes only on the lengths and the ends.
  3. Once a week I use the Metal Detox treatment after shampooing.
  4. When I feel my hair needs extra hydration, I also use a hair mask.
  5. Finally, on slightly damp hair, I apply a few drops of oil serum to the ends.

A few little things that make a big difference for me

  • I try not to wash my hair with water that's too hot.
  • While washing, I always gently massage my scalp for a few minutes.

Wrapping up

What works for me is not trying to take care of my entire head of hair with a single product. My scalp and my ends need different things, and ever since I've kept that in mind in my routine, my hair feels much prettier and more balanced.

I'm curious what your biggest hair-care challenge is. Do you also struggle with an oily scalp and dry ends?
