A Brief History of Shiseido

Arinobu Fukuhara, a Japanese businessman and pharmacist, opened his first private pharmacy in Ginza, Tokyo, in 1872. The brand's goal was to create products that combined "Western medicine with an Eastern philosophy."

A few key milestones: the Eudermine tonic launched in 1897 (nicknamed "Shiseido's Red Water" for its reddish hue), the Hanatsubaki perfume debuted in 1917 inspired by the camellia flower, and the De Luxe luxury group was established in 1932. The company made its first international investment in Hawaii in 1962.
